Some places are discovered little by little, and the Segre Rialb valley is one of them: a land where the water of the reservoir, the pre-Pyrenean mountains and the silence of the villages compose a landscape that invites you to slow down. Paths to lose yourself in, viewpoints that say it all at a single glance, and corners that never make it into the guidebooks.
Water defines the beautiful landscapes of Segre Rialb, thanks to its springs, rivers and reservoirs. The Segre and Rialb rivers and the waters of the Ribera Salada feed the Rialb reservoir. The Segre, before that, has already filled the Oliana reservoir.
From the Rialb dam, the Segarra-Garrigues canal has its water guaranteed, just as the Urgell Canal has had for more than one hundred and fifty years — the canal that, after passing through Ponts, the Segre feeds.
The towns of the Baronia de Rialb, Bassella, Oliana, Peramola, Ponts and Tiurana give shape to this valley. These settlements are spread across the pre-Pyrenean lands between the comarques (counties) of the Alt Urgell and the Noguera, surrounded by woods, mountains and hills dotted with farmhouses and Romanesque hermitages. At the centre lies the young Rialb reservoir, fed by the waters of the Segre and Rialb rivers and the Ribera Salada.
