Sant Pere de Ponts impresses even before you arrive. The church stands on a level platform on the southern slope of the Sant Pere mountain, beneath the remains of the castle, and is easily reached from Ponts, by car or on foot along a path that is already part of the visit.
Its architecture makes it unique: a single nave, a trilobed apse, an octagonal lantern tower and Lombard decoration draw one of the most distinctive ensembles of Catalan Romanesque. One of those monuments that command silence.
The Sant Pere de Ponts Interpretation Centre is housed within the Collegiate Church of Sant Pere de Ponts itself, a jewel of 11th-century Lombard Romanesque art located in the municipality of Ponts, in the comarca of the Noguera. This cultural space offers an in-depth look at the history of the monument, the Augustinian community that lived there, and its process of destruction and subsequent restoration.
