Santa Maria de Gualter commands attention through its presence and its history. This former Benedictine priory, linked to Ripoll and favoured by the counts of Urgell, was consecrated in 1207 and remains one of the great heritage symbols of the Baronia de Rialb.
It preserves the power of a monastic church with a basilican plan and the charm of the south gallery of the Romanesque cloister, with rounded arches and foliate capitals. Despite the damage of the Civil War, restoration work has recovered its architectural reading. An essential stop on any Romanesque route.
