The original village of Tiurana disappeared in 1998 due to the construction of the Rialb reservoir. Today, the “new” village stands beside its patron saint, Mare de Déu de Solés.
Guided by our tour leader, you will discover the history of this village and a series of recovered architectural elements, while also enjoying an exceptional panoramic view of the Rialb reservoir.
You’ll be able to learn more about: the main façade of the parish church of Sant Pere (17th century), the cemetery —which was moved from the old village burial ground—, the arcades of the former main street, the covered well —which was located on the street of the same name, alongside the Town Hall—, the small oratory pillar of Sant Antoni, the Portal de la Creu —located at the end of the main street, on the boundary of the old walled town of Tiurana—, the monolithic cross of the Camí Ral —a monolith carved on both sides— and the sarcophagus and funerary slab.
Newly created symbols also stand out. The “Sol Aigua” Fountain, which has become the symbol of the new village and represents a family. The Museum of Ancient Trades, where you will find a display of tools from traditional trades, the Foc del Pelegrí, where history tells us that even Hannibal and his elephants passed along the Camí Ral of Tiurana. For all these reasons, Tiurana wishes to continue preserving the same essence for travellers, and this feeling is reflected throughout the whole village.
