“El Ranxo” at Ponts.  The essence of the festival is the Ranxo, a kind of Catalan escudella soup made in the street as a big meal before we move into Lent. Its ingredients are the things that have been given the day before by each house in the town to the traditional procession round the town, the “lali lali”. About sixty pots are steaming from early in the morning until the time it is distributed between all those attending. Before this, however, the pots are blessed and the authorities receive the taste of honour. It corresponds to the highpoint of the Carnival festivities. At the end of the dance and ended with the parties, the same day, is the reading of the will and the burial of the sardine.
Gualter (Baronia de Rialb): on Shrove Tuesday the "Festa del Ranxo“ is held, when this Catalan escudella soup is prepared for the villagers.
